Dr. Adam McKee's

Spring 2006

Grading

Your grade for this course will come from two sources:

Participation (10%): These points will be earned by starting and participating in cogent discussions on the class discussion boards.  You must register for the discussion boards.  Please use your real name when registering (this helps me to keep track of who is participating).

Assignments (80%): These are discussion questions that force you to read and think about the material in the text.  On average, these will cover a chapter in the text and take about two double spaced pages to answer.  Here I will be looking for your knowledge of the information presented in the text; answering questions off the top of your head based on the section headings will not result in very high grades.  While not stated explicitly, reading the chapters is implicitly assigned.

Paper (10%):  You are hired by the Governors office to fix community corrections in Arkansas.  In an analytical essay, identify the 3 most serious problems and state your solutions, explaining why they will work.  A well argued response will take at least 10 pages-more if you are verbose.  Papers are due along with assignment 12.

General Information

Unless a question specifically states otherwise, you must answer all questions in the form of a essay.  Consider these formal writing assignments.  That means you need to

  • use proper English
  • spell things correctly
  • have a well organized presentation of your points
  • don't use contractions
  • and so forth

When sending me files, please follow the following filename convention:

LastName_FirstName_Assignment_X.doc

For example, if I were turning my first assignment, I would name the file as follows:

McKee_Adam_Assignment_1.doc

Of course, if you are using a word processor other than Word, you will save your file in Rich Text and it will have the .rtf file extension.

Failure to follow this file naming convention will incur a 5% penalty for each paper or assignment.
